How To Test New Skincare 🧪👩🏾‍🔬 Know When Products Work + My Top 4 Must Haves In 2022 Skincare&Me #3.2

Hey friends, welcome to today’s skincare video. This is part three of ‘Skincare & Me’, a series of videos where I will be going into more dept about my skincare journey and the behind the scenes of creating my skincare videos. Today I want to share how I use skincare products and create routines. Make sure to watch this video first ‘my basic skincare routine outline’. This video the the second half of it, I am picking up from when I left off. I will discuss my experience with testing new products and how I know when something works for my skin. I will also share how I create routines and my top 4 skincare products of 2021.

Now, I want to discuss my experience with testing new products and how I know it works for my skin.

Last year in 2021 I had fun learning and trying out new ingredients and brands. I used a little over 50ish products and 46 skincare products became a part of my skincare routine videos. These products where purchased by myself and also different samples I got from YesStyle. I have to say I had a lot of success with the products and many became my favourites.

There was actually only one product which I bought but disliked. I think I rarely dislike a product, just because of how much time it takes for me to decide on it. I may not always keep using products, or it might not produce the results I like. But there was one product that I disliked, I had even filmed a routine videos using it; but I didn’t even finish editing and deleted everything because it doesn’t work for my face and it was bad for my feet too. Usually when something doesn’t work I use it on my feet so I don’t waste the product lol. I didn’t like this products because it didn’t hit the marks on my moisturiser checklist.

Cleanser checklist: Cleans effectively, Clears pores & Low pH
Toner checklist: Creates the environment that will maximise skincare
Moisturiser checklist: Lightweight, Not greasy & Long lasting
Sunscreen checklist: UVA & UVB protection, No white cast, Not Greasy & No Breakouts from it

These are the basics I look for when it comes to these products, as they are the core the my skincare. And this particular moisturiser dried me out, it didn’t have a nice texture and was not easy to spread over my skin.

Apart from that everything else I used I was probably obsessed with or content with and used up the whole product. I went through some products faster than others, mainly cleansers and moisturisers; because those are daily necessities.

In 2020 during the summer when I started using more products I was very careful, I even had a structured timetable of what I used and when. I was able to be this organised for these two months in July and August, because I still have very minimal products. However by September I was buying more and thought I don’t have to be so meticulous and just listen to my skin. And so thought 2021, I literally just went with the flow. If I looked at my skin and I thought it needed more brightening I focused on using more products with that concern in mind; same with when I felt I was breaking out or feeling extra dry. I also tried to used different products regularly so my skin didn’t get too used to a product and then I stop seeing change.

This is the main reason there a many different skincare routine videos on my channel, I genuinely am creating routines based on the new products I am trying and also what my current circumstances are with my skincare journey. I was trying new products because I was having fun and wanted to learn more.

It is important to be safe when testing things on the skin. When trying new products if you have super sensitive skin it’s always advisable to test it out on the back of your hand and leave in for at least an hour; as that should be long enough to show how your skin takes to it. However, if even before an hour you feel any painful tingling or burning be sure to wash it off immediately.

If you are someone like me who knows what their skin likes already and are trying a new product with your favourite ingredients or a brand you trust; I put it straight onto my face the first time. However, it will be at a time when I know I have access to my bathroom incase of a reaction. I never try a new product and go straight out. So usually I test at night time, and I try up to 2 new products at a time max. Because there was a time when I tried 4 new products at the same time, and 2 of them were exfoliation products lucky nothing bad happened my face just went a little red. So especially with acids or any other exfoliating products you want to watch that closely, so keep it to a minimal.

When I test these new products I will use them as often as I can for about a week, to get used to them. The other products I use along side the ones I am testing will be products I’ve had for a while. And so I am seeing which products get along best with the new ones and that is how I will eventually decide which will feature in a skincare routine video.

Sometimes in my routine videos I would introduce several new skincare at a time to you guys. However, I never tried them all at the same time. And lately I thought it might be best to actually only introduce 2 new products in a skincare routine videos as that closely mimics what I do in my everyday.
In my previous skincare routine video I mentioned in the description that “The products I am highlighting: heimish All Clean Balm & ETUDE Soon Jung 2x Barrier Intensive Cream. All the other products you have seen before. I plan to introduce products slowly so I do not overload you all by showing so many new products.”

There might still be times when if I want to do a brand focus video; I will show several products from that one brand and a lot of them might be new. Apart from that I don’t think I will be introducing so many products at once as it might be confusing.

To conclude this video I thought I would share my ultimate skincare routine; these are my stars of 2021. If I could only have 4 products to use every single day.

Cleanser: COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser
Toner: Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner
Moisturiser: COSRX Oil Free Ultra Moisturizing Lotion with Birch Sap
Sunscreen: MISSHA All-Around Safe Block Essence Sun SPF45 PA+++

I can say that the COSRX cleanser is my ride or die, I use it morning and night; and no matter the condition of my skin. The toners category is hard, I love my toners but I decided to got for the Pyunkang Yul, because it slightly more thick and nourishing because it is a toner essence; and also it works whenever the ingredients are so simple and no reactive. The COSRX I choose as a my favourite moisturiser because it does well morning and night; it light but packs a punch in hydration. And the MISSHA goes well as a final step no matter the routine.

All the Korean Skincare products mentioned are listened in the description box available on YesStyle. Use my YesStyle Code and Link to get 5-10% off your purchases. I see these products as must haves in my routine, they are building blocks to help me maintain a minimal yet effective skincare routine; while also treating my specific skin care concerns.
